If you feel overwhelmed by a sense of responsibility for others to the point where it impacts your mental and physical health, you are not alone. Feeling drained, angry, resentful, and taken advantage of is common when we constantly give without receiving.
Setting boundaries can also be difficult when we feel guilty or ashamed for saying no to others. This can lead to us being always available to everyone, even when it is not healthy for us.
Sometimes, we may have trouble recognising and expressing our own feelings and emotions. We may ignore them to fit in or avoid disappointing others. This can lead to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as numbing our feelings with food, alcohol, or over-exercising.
We may also be critical of ourselves and others and try to control situations in order to achieve predictability and certainty.
